A new 100 taka note is coming to the market. The new design note will be released in the market from Tuesday, August 12. The new 100 taka note will be released initially from Bangladesh Bank's Motijheel office and later from other offices of Bangladesh Bank. The design of the new note is also changing. Bangladesh Bank announced this information in a press release today, Sunday.
The current 100 taka note has a portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The new note does not have it. However, along with these new notes, all the currently existing paper notes and metal coins will continue to be in circulation. In addition, considering the demand of coin collectors, a sample note of 100 taka (which is not exchangeable) has been printed along with the regular notes. These notes can be collected from the Taka Museum in Mirpur in the capital at a fixed price.
What's in the new 100 taka note?
The 100 taka bank note, signed by Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H. Mansur, has been sized 140 mm x 62 mm. The note is printed on 100 percent cotton paper and features the Royal Bengal Tiger's face as a watermark. The note has an abundance of blue color.
Bangladesh Bank said that the front left side of the note will feature a picture of the Sixty Dome Mosque in Bagerhat. The background in the middle of the note will feature a picture of the national flower, the lotus, in bloom with leaves and buds. The back of the note will feature a picture of the Sundarbans.
A total of 10 types of security features have been added to the note. A 4 mm wide red and silver security thread has been added to the front left side of the note, where the 'Monogram of Bangladesh Bank' and '100 Taka' are engraved. When the note is moved, the security thread in the 'Monogram of Bangladesh Bank' section changes color from red to green. In addition, there are three small circles on the front right side of the note for the visually impaired, which feel uneven to the touch.
What was in the new 1000, 50 and 20 taka notes?
Earlier, new notes of 1000, 50 and 20 taka were released in the market on June 1. Earlier, Bangladesh Bank suddenly stopped issuing new notes in the market in early April this year because all types of money and metal coins had Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's picture. As a result, the new notes with Bangabandhu's picture in the hands of Bangladesh Bank and banks did not come into the market. In this situation, Bangladesh Bank could not provide new notes to the banks compared to the demand.
The size of the 1000 taka bank note that came into the market was 160 mm x 70 mm. The note had an abundance of purple color. On the front left side of the note was the picture of the National Memorial and Savar. On the back of the note was the picture of the National Parliament Building. A total of 13 types of security features were added to the note.
