The mutual transfer of 90 Bangladeshi fishermen/naval workers detained in India and 95 Indian fishermen/naval workers detained in Bangladesh has been completed.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the handover took place in the western international waters on Sunday (January 5) afternoon.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Bangladesh Coast Guard received 90 Bangladeshi fishermen/boatmen from the Indian Coast Guard and
handed over 95 Indian fishermen/boatmen to the Indian Coast Guard. At the same time, the handover of the detained vessels of the two countries has also been completed. Two fishing vessels named 'FV Laila-2' and 'FV Meghna-5' of Bangladesh have been returned. On the other hand, six fishing boats of India have been returned.
The handover was completed through the Bangladesh Coast Guard in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Fisheries, and Border Guard Bangladesh.
After the formalities, the Bangladeshi fishermen and naval personnel, under the supervision of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, have set off for Chittagong with their fishing vessels and are expected to reach Chittagong on Monday (January 6).
The family members of the repatriated fishermen and naval workers will receive them in Chittagong, and this will complete the repatriation process.
