US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti said that the two countries have held a meeting at the level of National Security Advisors to discuss holding acceptable elections in Bangladesh as soon as possible and how the United States and India can cooperate in those elections.
He made this announcement during an interaction with journalists at the American Center in Kolkata on Saturday, according to The Telegraph.
Eric Garcetti said at the exchange of views that on January 6, there was a meeting between US National Security Advisor Jack Sullivan and Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and a large part of that meeting was devoted to Bangladesh and its possible elections.
He said, "I was present at that meeting myself. I also participated in the discussions. The main topic of our discussion on the Bangladesh issue was the election. The main discussion was on how Bangladesh can have an acceptable election in the shortest possible time and how the US and India can cooperate with Bangladesh in this regard."
Apart from this, the issue of security of minorities in Bangladesh was also on the agenda, the ambassador said, "Both the outgoing President Joe Biden and the next President Donald Trump have emphasized the rights and security of minorities in Bangladesh. In fact, we all want to see Bangladesh as a stable, development-oriented and tolerant country."
Meanwhile, at a press briefing in Washington on Friday, Jack Sullivan said that the rumors that the United States was 'wielding a match' in the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government are completely 'absurd' and that the Indian government also does not believe these rumors.
