At least 10 people are feared dead in flash floods caused by cloudbursts in Indian-controlled Jammu and Kashmir, with many more injured.
The horrific natural disaster occurred in Chashoti, Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday (August 14). Rescue workers rushed to the spot after which several people were rescued.
A local official told news agency PTI that they fear 10 deaths due to cloudburst.
The English word for cloud burst is 'cloud burst'. It is a natural disaster. When clouds suddenly gather somewhere and as a result of this, there is heavy rainfall in a very short period of time, it is called a cloud burst. Due to the much more rainfall than usual in a short period of time, flash floods are created in the affected area. Which sweeps away everything in the low-lying areas in the blink of an eye.
Every year in Jammu and Kashmir, the annual pilgrimage to the Mata Chandi Himalayan pilgrimage site of Kiswar takes place. One has to go through Chashoti to reach this pilgrimage site. Chashoti is the starting point of the pilgrimage. The area is quite remote. There is no road for vehicles after these Chashoti villages. A local official said that this year's annual pilgrimage has been postponed due to flash floods caused by cloudbursts.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has ordered the police, army and disaster management agencies to join the rescue operation.
